Gennizel, but call me Genny.

I'm too damn idealistic for my own good.

It's mostly just me and my tea fancying.

The Help by Hunter Langston

This poster says more about the problematic aspects of the movie than almost anything I’ve ever seen

Pretty fucking accurate.

am i wrong for pointing out that it’s especially refreshing to see black men holding up those signs?

no. i was actually about to go back and edit how much i loved that it was black men doing it

You aren’t the only ones. I am most DEFINITELY loving the fact that black men are in this, especially cause folks LOVE to talk about how us black people are so fucking homophobic/transphobic/cissexist, ESPECIALLY our men…

The best season. So many memorable designers with gorgeous frocks and shit. Best evar.

I’m debating whether I should do a few things I need to do

These things include:

  • oil change
  • which means I’d have to clean out my car so that the mechanics don’t judge me
  • which means I’d have to take out the trash from my car
  • I might as well take out my dorm trash too
  • I might as well clean this awful mess of a room
  • I might as well clean the bathroom
  • and organize my closet
  • and do my readings for class
  • and maybe go for a bike ride and get some fresh air
  • and maybe make some tea and watch Monk when I’m done

I think the way it will really work is like this:

  • buy candy and wine
  • get wine drunk
  • eat all the candy
  • watch Monk
  • fall asleep on huge pile of clothes

Sounds about right.

Hollywood is a business. And I don’t fault it for that. It’s a business about money and advertising, and we don’t translate in the foreign market. And a lot of people want to indict Hollywood for that, but I don’t think it’s just an indictment on Hollywood; it may be more of an indictment on people who go to the theatre to put their money down – to see what? You see a film with a predominantly black cast and you don’t see it as inclusive, but you see a film with a predominantly white cast and it is. Why?

I want to be a pioneer; I want to take on the responsibility and the weight of something bigger than myself, which is more diverse storylines, especially for African-American actresses. But I can only do what I do. I certainly can’t change Hollywood’s complete perception of black actresses – I need help.

I really like the way my mom says Doug’s name.

It makes me warm and joyful inside.

I’m sure it does…I’m sure it gets a whole lot better in time…and blah blah blah. But, does the fact that it “gets better” stop (hypothetical) you from being bullied, harassed, assaulted, and made to feel absolutely worthless? Does it make you sit at home at night and not want to kill yourself, or hurt yourself, or just disappear? The answer is no, it does not. The hope of it getting better does nothing for people going through anything. What about Jamey Rodemeyer…he made the “it gets better video,” and what happened to that innocent boy? He ended up killing himself. Telling young lgbtq….(etc) youth that it gets better is not proactive, it’s complacent…. and it’s not enough.
